As a writer, I strive to create something memorable. I want to write the line, share the concept or emotion that sticks with other people. I hope my words will hearts and become part of the fabric of other people’s lives. This and the need to share my journey (sometimes too much) motivates me to keep working to get better and battling my autoimmune disease.
When I heard Stephen Hawking died, I didn’t immediately think about his work as a scientist. I reflected about his musings on life and struggle with chronic illness. I realized he has captured some of the thoughts I’ve had about living with a disability better than I have to date. Here are a few of my favorite quotes.
“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.”
“Don’t be disabled in spirit as well as physically”
“Keeping an active mind has been vital to my survival, as has been maintaining a sense of humor.”
“We are all different. There is no such thing as a standard or run-of-the-mill human being, but we share the same human spirit.”
