Very little about today went as planned. It began with back pain, pain pills, a two hour drive to Connecticut followed by a 50 minute drive to Scarsdale.
We arrived at our destination to find a broken thermostat on the coldest day of the year. And, I learned that the container filled with brownie cupcakes I made had been accidentally left at home.
This led a trip to the grocery store for desserts followed by an attempt to reheat the food that I cooked while sitting on a stool two days after getting out of the hospital for a back procedure.
Three hours after my misadventures began my family gathered around a table full of food to eat. As we bowed our head for my father to bless the food and the guests, I thought about a quote from Buddha, “Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.”
