When she responded to my text by calling me in the middle of the day, I knew the answer to my question.

“My doctor says they found cancer cells in some of the lymph nodes they removed,” She began. “So, I’ll have to have chemo. I’m going to finish recovering at home before I find an oncologist.”

She’d made it through the surgery to remove cancer from part of her intestines just like she did when she lost a kidney to cancer two decades earlier. But, I couldn’t help but wonder if she was ready for what lies ahead. Then, I questioned whether I and the rest of my family were prepared and how we could support her through the fight. I concluded we all have no choice but to do all that we can to save her life.
