I’ve always found it interesting that at this time of year people set resolutions. If that motivates you that’s great. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions but I do update my life list periodically. It’s a string of personal and professional goals I want to reach during my lifetime. It’s accompanied by concrete steps I can take to make it a reality.
For example, finish another book by writing at least 10 pages a week no matter how mentally exhausted I am after working. It includes steps like finding a competent editor, rewrite, compile a list of places where I can submit it, submit and repeat until the book is finally sold.
Other things on my list include controlling my temper by walking away from situations my time or effort. There’s planning a mini getaway/ adventures at least once every other month to prioritize myself and my relationship, and traveling to a Spanish speaking country to make use of the lessons I’ve been taking.
No matter what is on my list I never consider my age, autoimmune condition or what someone else might think of my goals. I only answer to me if I screw up or fall short. So, why would I let intrusive thoughts from others derail me?
Happy New Year!
