Until two years ago, I didn’t have to think about where I was going to spend the holidays. I was fortunate enough to have parents who not only had a home but they always welcomed their children and their children’s partners to it. They’re gone now and so is the family home. Figuring out how to create a new tradition has been gut wrenching at times. I think it’s because you have to let go of what you thought your life would be and look at what it actually is at this time
When I was young, I would’ve thought I would have kids, a house with a big yard, and my parents would still be here to celebrate the holidays with me. I thought I would have tons of family around all the time so the holidays would be a no-brainer. Unfortunately that’s not the case. Fortunately, I have two brothers who I’m very close with who are always willing to get together and share their families with me. I have a husband who is always on my side. I also have friends who are more like family. So I am all booked for the holidays. This is why for day 23 of my Christmas sweater countdown I am wearing a sweater that says all booked for Christmas.
Of course, this sweatshirt also stood out to me because I love books. I’ve written four books. I’m not the best seller nor am I a household name, but I’ve written from my heart and told stories I wanted to read. I’m not begging you to buy my books. But, I am asking anyone who is looking for a last minute gift to consider a book. It can open up a world, foster imagination, ease loneliness or give new insight into the world.
