Ask Loved Ones What’s Crackin’

At the holidays, I usually share some sort of anecdote related to the many sweaters I wear from December 1st through December 25th. I call it my Christmas sweater countdown. But, it really is an opportunity for me to reach out to people I don’t see every day. Its aim is to provide a smile, a laugh, something to think about or just a way to let people know they’re not alone. I rarely ask for feedback although sometimes I get it. I didn’t think about that  until last night.

Last evening I reached out to several people to ask them to get together with me for my upcoming birthday. I don’t like being the center of attention, which is probably hard to believe given I post about parts of my life online. Yet, what I learned from the responses was that I don’t know very much about what’s going on in the day-to-day life of people I consider friends and family. I think sometimes we mistake social media interactions for real connections.

Today I’m using day four of the Christmas  sweater countdown to ask you what’s crackin’? Is there anything going on you wanna share or need to talk about? Those who know me well know that I prefer to conduct conversations offline. While you might not want to share with me perhaps you could reach out to someone in your own life. Maybe you should ask yourself when was the last time you’ve asked the people in your life what’s crackin’? How are you doing? Do you need anything? Can we meet up?  It definitely will make someone’s season brighter and it’s free.
