How many of you are like me? You agonize over what to get others during the holiday season whether it’s a card or gift. You even stress over texting or calling people in your circle.
The older I get the more I realize my list of “must dos,” “must haves,” and the people I must fight to keep in my life gets smaller. I try to treat others the way I want to be treated. Despite this, through many losses, medical bouts, and work “miracles” performed, I find a lot of people haven’t reciprocated or lived up to my “deal breakers.”
In the past, it’s been hard for me to cut ties. I truly believed the “chosen” people were in my life for a reason. I also recognized that making connections is difficult. But, I forgot that some people are only meant for a season or a lesson. I also neglected to treat myself as well as I treat others.
So I have turned back to the teachings of my youth. Proverbs 13:20 “walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” This season of giving, I’m giving myself peace and releasing those people who detract from it or don’t add to it.
