I idolize no one but I find inspiration in all kinds of people and places: old, new, strange and common. I was moved last month while sitting at home watching the Tyson vs. Paul fight.
It wasn’t the best boxing match I’d ever seen and yet I found it enthralling. It was an event where two people were embracing their gift, shaking off their past adversities like severe medical challenges and were determined to beat the odds. It was one of the few times where age was not used as an excuse not to try.
As Tyson and Paul danced around the ring (albeit slowly), they ignored the expectations of the world, the pressures of that moment in time, and shook off their own insecurities to meet the challenge in front of them.
I know I find it hard to be present in the moment, leaving my baggage behind, to accomplish some goals. But, I’m resuming my Christmas sweater countdown this year in an attempt to make sure I have some joy each day regardless of what else is going on. I’m sharing posts with the sweaters because writing is my talent.
